The most common thatch roof issues we see are ridge wear from UV exposure and rain, leaks around valleys and roof penetrations, and bird damage where hadedas, starlings, or other species pull at the reed. Fire retardant treatment should be reapplied every 3 to 5 years to maintain protection — we use SANS 10407-compliant products that meet insurance requirements.
